KPWT/Movistar Kite Pro in Tarifa 2009

Hi everybody, this is Lorena! I participated in the KPWT Tarifa 2009 tour. It was my first international competition and it was a great event, even though my ranking wasn’t very good. But I could really gain a lot of experience there.

On the first day (1st of July) the wind didn’t meet competition requirements for the mens single elimination contest. So they started with the racing competition. The first race saw over 45 riders take to the water. Bruno Sroka (FRA, Cabrinha) won 3 of the 4 races on that day.

After a big party in Pachamama,  on the second day (2nd of July) riders meet at 10:30. Unfortunately the competition had to be posponed until 13:30 because of lousy wind conditions . The men heats started at 14:15 in the afternoon and at 16:30 the Hawaiian board competition took place: huge flip-flop boards were put in the water and the aim was to maneuver them as best as possible. The final round of saw competition saw a duel between the two spanish riders: Alvaro Onieva and Abel Lago with Alvaro winning this competition (and 900 Euros). In the women’s final three girls participated and Gisela Pulido (SPA, Movistar) came in on first place (and won 600 Euros).
The third day (3rd of July) started with the women’s single freestyle elimination and the tournament continued with the second round for men.

The 4th of July started with the two course races and Bruno Sroka (FRA, Cabrinha) won again. In the women’s racing competition Fabienne D´Ortolli (FRA, naish) came on the first place.  Later, the wind condition finally improved, so the men freestyle double elimination could start – until the wind drop off again. In the evening there was a great party at the local Cafe del Mar.

The 5th and last day of the competition began with course racing, followed by women’s and men’s freestyle double elimination.  At 19:00 the final award ceremony took place at the Tangana Bar. All top 3 riders of every discipline received trophies.
